After lengthy discussions with my mother in law and father in law last night about starting a Christmas tradition together, one that would teach the children about the true meaning of
Christmas, and for them to know how wonderful it is to have the spirit of giving, we have decided that we are going to adopt a family each year around Christmas.
There are alot of families here that don't have enough to go around at Christmas, bare cupboards, empty refridgerators, and nothing to give their children on Christmas morning. The local food banks and shelters look for people willing to "adopt" the families that are going through this rough time, to help them get off their feet and help them enjoy the holidays, and not have to worry about food, or toys.
We've decided to adopt a family, and in the next day or two we will find out the basics of the family, how many children, any special needs, food allergies, etc. Then, we will go, and gather groceries, and the kids are going to pick out a toy or two at a store for the kids. Were going to get them everything they need to fill their cupboards, and to have a turkey for christmas.
This year this is going to be a kind of spur of the moment thing, but this is something we plan on doing every year. Through the year we are going to have a jar to put change, and any money that we have extra that we would waste on junk food or fast food, and around the middle of November, we will put all of our savings together, to give a family that couldn't have a christmas, a wonderful Christmas.
I am so excited to start putting things together, and I can't wait to see the surprise on the family's faces as we deliver a van loaded full of groceries, and gifts for them!
Things around here have been going okay. Both of the girls are still a bit sick, but mostly just a cough thats left. Kallie has basically cried for the last week, clinging to my hip. I hate it when she's not feeling well. Tiana has turned into quite the mother hen, Kallie can't even so much as blink without Tiana yelling to me what she's doing.
What I wouldn't give for an hour of silence. Wow.
Right now I'm looking into schooling for myself, and really taking a look at what I want to do with my life, career wise. There is one career I saw myself in since I was about 15 years old, so I'm really looking into things, and seeing just how much I would like to be in that career. I will let anyone who actually reads this know which career that is once I have decided.
Erik is home in 8 days!!!!
